1. Bhutan will become fourth Asian country (After India, Thailand and Iran) to host a tournament on Asian Tennis Tour (ATT) in
September 2016. It will be Bhutan's first ever international tennis tournament.

2. 31st Summer Olympic Games started in Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, with theme World peace and Environment. Abhinav Bindra (2008 Beijing Olympic gold medallist) is the flag bearer from India in opening ceremony. It is his 5th appearance at the Olympics.
Next (32nd) Olympic Games will be held in Tokyo (Japan) in 2020 ith 5 added ¬ baseball/softball, karate, skateboard, sports climbing and surfing.

5. Abhijeet Gupta won 20th Commonwealth Chess championship crown 2016 held in Colombo (Sri Lanka). He retained Commonwealth Chess championship crown that he won in 19th edition.

6. Gymnast Dipa Karmakar became first Indian gymnast to qualify for finals of artistic Gymnastics at Rio 2016 Olympics.

7. India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) announced 500 gms Sovereign Gold Bonds for Gold Medalists and 1 KG silver to Silver Medalists of India at RIO Olympics 2016.
Apart, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) also announced cash award of 50 lakh rupees for gold medal, 30 lakh for silver and 20 lakh rupees for bronze medalists.

8. India batsman Virender Sehwag has been awarded honorary life membership of Marylebone Cricket Club (England).

9. Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni Left past Austraalia's Rickey Ponting to become captain of any national team in most number of cricket games (325th (ODI, T20, TEST)).

10. Indian wrestler Narsingh Yadav has been banned from all competitive sporting events for 4 years by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne (Switzerland). He was banned following an appeal by World Anti¬Doping Agency (WADA) as there was no evidence to accept his claim that his food was spiked by banned doping substance.

11. Indian wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt’s bronze medal from 2012 London Summer Olympics has been upgraded to Silver. Thisupgradation comes after silver medalist late Besik Kudukhov (Russia)'s silver was taken off for failing a dope test. Kudukhov had died in a car crash in 2013 in southern Russia.

12. India’s Dipika Pallikal won PSA Australian Squash Open by defeating Mayar Hany of Egypt.
13. India’s tennis player Sania Mirza topped ATP Women’s Doubles Tennis rankings along with partner, Barbora Strycova of CzechRepublic.The ranking came after Saina Mirza and Monica Niculescu won Doubles title at Connecticut Open in USA.

14. International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) announced that 2016 Kabaddi World Cup will be hosted in Ahmedabad (Gujarat) inOctober 2016.

15. Lionel Messi announced that he will play on for Argentina, reversing his decision in June to retire from international football.

16. Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg from Germany has won the 2016 Belgian Grand Prix of Formula One.

17. National Anti¬Doping Agency (NADA) given clean chit to wrestler Narsingh Yadav in doping case. He will now participate in 2016 Rio Olympics.
